Introductory rate against the revert rate
The same loan at the revert rate for the whole term shows what the introductory period is worth.
| Measure | With the introductory rate | Revert rate throughout |
|---|---|---|
| Repayment for the first 2 years | $3,402.97 | $3,690.40 |
| Repayment once the rate reverts | $3,677.10 | $3,690.40 |
| Total interest | $717,177 | $728,545 |
| Total repaid | $1,317,177 | $1,328,545 |
How this calculator works
An introductory rate lowers the repayment for the first year or two. When it ends, the rate reverts and the repayment is recalculated on whatever is left.
Comparing against the same loan at the revert rate from day one shows what the introductory period is really worth.
Assumptions
- Interest is charged at the repayment frequency: the annual rate divided by 12, 26 or 52 each period. A year is taken as 52 weeks or 26 fortnights.
- Repayments are principal and interest, made at the end of each period.
- During the introductory term the repayment is worked out at the introductory rate over the full loan term.
- At the end of the introductory term the repayment is recalculated at the revert rate over the remaining term.
- The revert rate does not change after it starts.
